This is a BBC pitch I did for Studio Liddell working with an external writing partner. The intention was to take the Doctor Who brand into the VR space as a series of episodic experiences drawing from the TV series' extensive catalogue of characters, stories and locations.
I scratch built both the interior and exterior of the 1963 tardis as seen in the very first episode "An Unearthly Child". The Tardis console is built from the blueprints of the original physical prop. All the surfacing work was done in Substance Painter. All the materials in Unity use a custom shader built using Amplify Shader Editor. The only thing I didn't build are the rocks in the exterior part of the scene. The prototype uses a heavily modified 3rd party portal extension for Unity to achieve the "its bigger on the inside..." effect.
The whole project had to be finished in a little over 3 weeks due to tight time constraints with an on-site demo with the BBC.
As shown in the video above, the phone was a fully interactive prop.
The console didn't quite get finished. The panel below should have a bank of switches on it. I'll add them in at some point!
All the lighting is baked using Unity's legacy lighting tools.
