Created for The TrailerFarm, working with their internal content team. I handled all the page animation work from the rigging and animation of the unerlying book to the dynamic grass, path and foliage growing effects on the pages and placement of animated buildings. The client provided their game assets and the animation team at The TrailerFarm handled the breakdown and animation of the individual building assets using mograph tools in C4D.
The biggest challenge for this project was the setup of all the dynamic page creation. The project as a whole had an incredibly short turn-around so it was not a viable option to render the whole sequence in an offline manner given the time constraints, so I turned to Unity again to stage the whole thing and render in realtime.
I had to build a fairly crude pipeline to push the building animation data out of C4D into Unity using Alembic caches to preserve all the complexities of the animation. I also had to come up with a solution to handle the page reveals so leveraged a combination of custom shaders for the pages that would reveal areas of grass, dirt and cobbles from an empty page, and the new (at the time) visual effect graph to spawn trees and foliage into the masked areas. Comprehensive use of Timeline was required to choreograph everything and I had to to quite a bit of animation work for the towns-folk walking around and the bridge formation. As always I also handled all the surfacing, lighitng and final rendered output.
